On Thursday, November 13th the management of PwC was present when Jonas Gaudernack defended his doctoral thesis on the topic of auditing. Gaudernack has conducted his daily work at PwC, and is the first to carry out a doctorate degree with grants from The Norwegian Institute of Public Accountants.
"The purpose of the agreement and professorship is to stimulate research in auditing in the extension of the doctorate degree which has just been submitted," explains Aasmund Eilifsen from The Department of Accounting, Auditing and Law.
The endowment is linked to PwC's own professor II position for William F. Messier, who has been associated with NHH for a number of years. "Bill is a star in his research field internationally," says Eilifsen.
Messier recently received The 2008 Distinguished Service in Auditing Award, a prize which is distributed to people who, for more than 20 years, have contributed significantly to the subject field. What is special with Messier is that he is active like never before; next month an article written by him will be published in the world's most prestigious journal in accounting, The Journal of Accounting Research.
