FIBE: Creativity outside the oil context
What drives innovators and what should we invest our future in? Is it possible to create a culture for innovation and motivation? In January 2014, speakers at the FIBE conference will present some recommendations.

The title of the FIBE conference «After the Last Oil» refers to the situation Norway will face when oil loses its importance as a driving force in the Norwegian economy. It gives an indication of the challenges that the speakers at the conference's plenary sessions will address: How can we create a culture that ensures creativity and innovation? How do businesses make diversification decisions? How can we motivate and stimulate economic behaviour?
A culture that fosters innovators
The conference as whole will address a broader set of issues than the title might indicate, and it will not be about how we will make money once the oil runs out, emphasises Sigurd Villads Troye, professor at the Department of Strategy and Management and chair of the FIBE committee.
'The opening lecture by Professor Melissa Schilling is about creating a culture for innovators and innovation, among other things,' Troye says.
Schilling is a professor of management and organizations at New York University Stern School of Business.
'Schilling has a highly impressive career as a researcher. It is her research on innovation and strategy that has given her high status in academia, and her research in this field also led to her winning the National Science Foundation's CAREER Award of 405,000 dollars.
Which baskets should eggs be put in?
Professor Lasse Lien of the Department of Strategy and Management will be responsible for one of the special lectures at the conference.
'He will speak about diversification decisions in his lecture Which baskets should eggs be put in? - How enterprises make diversification decisions.
The final date for registering for FIBE 2014 is 12 December 2013, which is also the deadline for registering and submitting research contributions and abstracts, and for registration for the research prize competition.
The FIBE conference is now established as the most important business economics arena in Norwegian research and higher education circles. It addresses important research topics and trends and aims to strengthen and stimulate research, as well as promoting networking between researchers from different educational and research institutions.
The 31st FIBE conference will be held at NHH in Bergen from 9 to 10 January 2014
