Peter Lorange to NHH

Peter Lorange

On Thursday 21st August former IMD president and BI Rector Professor Peter Lorange will hold an open lecture at NHH on the management and leadership of academic institutions. Lorange, who is an NHH alumnus, will also take part in discussion on NHH's new strategy document while at the school.

15.08.2008 - Lisbeth Heilund

The title of the lecture is New Challenges Re Leadership of Academic Institutions. Based on his experiences from IMD, Lorange has recently written a book about the management and leadership of academic institutions. He is especially concerned with the essential collaboration between research and teaching and looks at creating a symbiosis - mutual reliance - between the two, which is perhaps the largest strategic challenge that faces academic institutions.

Lorange comes with several suggestions for how academic institutions should be managed and lead. Many of his ideas have direct relevance for several of the important processes that are currently ongoing at NHH, especially with work being undertaken to develop a new strategy document and the work with the school's future management and organisation structure.

Peter Lorange is an NHH Siviløkonom graduate, with a master degree from Yale University and a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from Harvard Business School. Lorange has also received honorary doctorates from Pécs University, Moscow State University, Copenhagen Business School (CBS) and Lund University, and in addition is an honorary member of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).

From 1993 to 2008 Lorange was President of IMD in Lausanne, and before that he was Rector of BI Norwegian School of Management in Oslo. He moved to BI after being connected to the Wharton School of Busienss at the University of Pennsylvania in more than ten years, where he was, amongst other things, the William H. Wurster Professor of Multinational Management. Lorange has also taught at Sloan School of Management, MIT.

Professor Lorange has written and edited 18 books and has published over 120 articles, with a special focus on Global Strategic Management, Strategic Planning og Entrepreneurship for Growth.

The lecture is open to all interested staff and students.
