The International Career Center at NHH (ICC) organized in late October an event where international master students looking for a professional internship in Norway and Bergen based companies could meet and greet. Close to fifty students had prior to the event submitted applications whereof eighteen were speed interviewed.
Ann-Mari Haram and Silje Båtsvik Risholm at ICC are already planning next year's event. "We organize Meet and Greet first and foremost to make professional internships available to our international students. We however also encourage the participating companies to interview a maximum of students as we want as many as possible to get valuable interview training".
The challenge facing ICC is to get more companies on board. "In 2015 we will market Meet and Greet to companies located in other parts of Norway than Bergen. Our short term target is that at least one out of five applicants gets a professional work experience in Norway. So if you happen to have a company contact that may be interested in participating, please get in touch with us".
Meet and Greet was organized for the first time last year and Marine Harvest and DOF Subsea have become regular participants. They are still examining other openings for candidates this year but it remains to be seen whether this will result in actual offers. Another spin off is that the event creates awareness with regard to other possibilities at other companies. Visma has for instance just recruited an intern from the same pool of applicants.
