Ernst Fehr gives the Sandmo Lecture

Professor Ernst Fehr from the University of Zürich gives the annual Sandmo Lecture on Public Policy at NHH Thursday, 16 January.

The title of Fehr's lecture is Institutions and Trust - Does Trust Cause Lasting Improvements in Economic Outcomes?

Fehr is among the world's foremost social scientists, and he has done groundbreaking work on the role of moral in Economics. He heads one of the leading centres for micro economics and experimental economics at the University of Zürich.

Research on moral motivation

One of Fehr's main research interests is the relation of social preferences, social norms and strategic interaction. His contributions give important insights about how cooperation is sustained in a society and about the role of formal contracts in economic transactions.

Fehr is also one of the founders of neuroeconomics, a field that studies which brain processes that controls economic choices.

The Sandmo Lecture

NHH established The Sandmo Lecture on Public Policy in honour of Professor Emeritus Agnar Sandmo in connection with his 70th birthday in 2008.

Professor Sandmo is among Norway's leading economists, and he has made significant research contributions in several fields.

Every year in January, a leading international economist is invited to NHH to give the Sandmo Lecture.

Junior Visiting Fellowship

In addition to the lecture, NHH established the Sandmo Junior Visiting Fellowship for especially promising researchers under the age of 40.

The recipient is invited to visit Department of Economics for a month in connection with the Sandmo Lecture.

This year's Junior Visiting fellow is Associate Professor Katrine V. Løken from the University of Bergen.
