All employees that participated at the opening of the studio on 21 November were invited to suggest a name. The name competition was anonymous, but the jury headed by Deputy Rector Sunniva Whittaker says that the name reflects that the studio is an arena - or a laboratorium - for experimentation.

"The video studio represents a big step in the right direction in relation to several of NHH's strategic goals", Whittaker continues.

She explains that NHH wishes to inspire the academic staff to enhance the quality of the studies by enabling them to try out new teaching methods, not as a substitute for face to face interaction with the campus based students, but as a supplement. In addition, the studio will provide the opportunity to reach out to new student groups through on line courses. "This may well mark the beginning of a new era for our executive education", says Sunniva Whittaker.

The studio has also been put into use to disseminate research, which is an important aspect of NHH's communication strategy. The latest video films in the series "En økonom forklarer" have been shot in Smart Lab. The studio will also be considered used for marketing purposes.

This opening took place in the context of the faculty's pedagogical hour. "Smart Lab is the result of what we can achieve when we pool our resources", states Sunniva Whittaker.

Frank Mortensen and Arild Schanke are responsible for the video studio.
