EARNet symposium comming up

Five EARNet Symposiums have taken place (2001 Wuppertal, 2003 Manchester, 2005 Amsterdam, 2007 Aarhus and 2009 Valencia); the three most recent have included a Ph.D. Workshop. The Symposium is established as a major event in Europe for presentation and discussion of auditing research papers. It also provides a forum for academics, practitioners, policy-makers and standard-setters to discuss auditing research and current issues in the auditing environment. The 6th EARNet Symposium will be at NHH 16-17 September 2011 and is part of NHHs 75-years anniversary.

European Auditing Research Network (EARNet) founded in 2000, intends to foster research and exchange ideas among auditing scholars and researchers in Europe. Its primary objective is to promote European auditing research, including supporting auditing researchers in their early career. EARNet also aims to contribute to European policy-making in the auditing area. EARNet has more than 400 members and it is a network for research, book projects, conferences, Ph.D. seminars (http://www.ear-net.eu/).

EARNet Ph.D. Workshop precedes the Symposium on 15 September. 13 proposals and papers are accepted for presentation and discussion. The Ph.D. Workshop Faculty includes experienced researchers from Europa and the US (http://conference.rente.nhh.no/earnet/2011/programme_workshop.htm).

The Symposium covers two days and more than 120 auditing researchers from all over the world participate together with leading representatives from the auditing profession. The Symposium's Keynote Speaker is Professor Stuart Turley, University of Manchester. The three panels address the topics «Auditors and Green Services: Professional and Research Opportunities», «What Makes Financial Statements Reliable?" and «Audit Firm Governance».
