Book launch imminent

Two authors have been working on the anniversary book since 2007, and it will be officially launched on the Wednesday of Anniversary Week when a book seminar will be held in its honour.

The authors of the anniversary book, entitled 'Norges Handelshøyskole i 75 år - En læreanstalt av høieste rang' are Elisabeth Bjørsvik and Yngve Nilsen. It covers the history of the Norwegian School of Economics from its foundation up to the present day.

Everyone will receive a copy

'It looks like being an exciting book with lots of great photos,' says Professor Bjørn Basberg. As chair of the book project committee, he has invested a great deal of effort in ensuring the book is ready for the anniversary. He is now looking forward to its launch in the Agnar Sandmo auditorium, which will hopefully be packed.

When Paraplyen talked to him, he was on his way to the publisher Fagbokforlaget to have a look at the first edition, which had just arrived in Bergen. Three thousand copies of the first edition have been printed, and Professor Basberg informs us that all staff at NHH will find a copy of the book in their pigeonholes next week.

'A shorter English version will also be produced in the near future,' Professor Basberg reveals.

Different perspectives

At the book seminar, the authors will be in attendance to present the book, but most of the seminar will be devoted to different perspectives on the history of NHH. Three speakers will discuss their thoughts on the school's seventy-five-year history.

'When we started the book project, our goal was to see NHH's history from an outsider's perspective. Now, we are crossing the finishing line having kept sight of this goal all the way ' says a delighted Professor Basberg.

Trine Eilertsen is the editor of the daily newspaper Bergens Tidende, and a former student at NHH. She will be discussing the business school's history from the perspective of having studied there, and as a local resident. Rolv Petter Amdam is one of Norway's top experts on the history of education in business management, and this will be the context for his talk, while Rune Slagstad comes from the Centre for the Study of Professions at Oslo University College.

'All three are in a good position to talk about NHH's history, and I believe that both staff and students will find these talks entertaining,' Professor Basberg concludes.
