Position of Research Professor in Business Analysis and Performance Management

The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration invites applications for the position of Research Professor in Business Analysis and Performance Management.

The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration is a premier business school in Europe. Business Analysis and Performance Management is an area of specialization in the masters program and is a field of strategic importance for the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration.

Extensive teaching and active research relating to Business Analysis and Performance Management are carried out in several departments. The Research Professor of Business Analysis and Performance Management will be responsible for further developing, organizing and integrating the research efforts in this field.

To be considered for a position of Research Professor applicants must already hold a position of full professor. In addition to a brilliant research record, the Research Professor should have documented significant leadership qualities and an ability to direct and inspire others and build teams.

The appointee must comply with the guidelines that apply to the position at any time.

Salary will be according to code 1404 with the State Salary Scale 80 (currently NOK 648 300, corresponding to approximately Euro 78 900). A higher salary may be negotiated, depending on the candidate's qualifications and on the school's salary policy. The maximum salary is on Scale 87 (currently NOK 803 300, corresponding to approximately Euro 101 800). From the salary a 2% deduction will be made as pension contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

A substantial annual research budget will be available to the Research Professor. Research teams under the leadership of the research professor will be given priority in the process of allocating funds to doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships.

Research Professors are appointed for a term of four years. Appointments may be renewed once.

The application should contain details of the applicant's scientific and pedagogical education and work experience. The application and enclosed documentation, including a maximum of 15 research papers (published or unpublished) and a complete list of the papers, must be submitted in four copies.

In the event of equivalent qualifications, female applicants will be given preference.

Description of Position:

Business Analysis and Performance Management is concerned with identifying and solving problems in the process of creating value. Problem areas include implementation of strategic decisions, capital budgeting, choice of product- and customer portfolios, pricing, production management and logistics. The field also deals with organizational issues such as defining structures of authority and responsibility, the degree of decentralization, coordination, transfer pricing, outsourcing and management of networks.

Performance measurements at different organizational levels, such as measurement of profitability, productivity or innovation, are also of central importance for managerial control, as is the construction of compensation mechanisms. Business Analysis and Performance Management systems rely heavily on available information. The design and implementation of information systems is therefore another crucial area in this field of expertise.

Business Analysis and Performance Management is an area of specialization in the masters program and is a field of strategic importance for the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration. Extensive teaching and active research relating to Business Analysis and Performance Management are carried out in several departments. Hence the area is currently broad and dynamic, but somewhat fractured. The Research Professor of Business Analysis and Performance Management will be responsible for further developing, organizing and integrating the research efforts in this field.

A Research Professor will not be expected to teach outside the doctoral program. The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration is prepared to give the field of Business Analysis and Performance Management priority when allocating funds to doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships. A substantial annual research budget will be available to the Research Professor.
