Abstract
This paper studies transshipment from a supply chain perspective. We consider both the cases of the manufacturer being a price taker and the manufacturer having price power. In the case of the manufacturer being a price taker, several new analythical results regarding the effects of key parameters on order quantities and profits are provided. In the case of the manufacturer having price power, we characterize the Stackelberg game that arises, and provide several insights to how the game dynamics is affected by transshipment. The effects of demand correlation and the effect of the number of retailers are captured throughout the paper. The findings are illustrated by a numerical example.
