Tema: "Electoral competition and the "probability-of-victory function"
Tid: Fredag 15. februar, kl. 12.15-13.30
Sted: Aud. D
Abstract:
"A well known result from the literature on electoral competition is the tendency that competing candidates' policy announcements converge to the policy preferred by the median voter, the so called Hotelling effect. This result is crucially dependent on the assumption that the winner actually carries out the announced policy, or at least that the median voter believes so. Alternatively one may assume, as is done in several recent contributions in the literature, that policy announcements affects the electorate's beliefs about future policy. However, several well-known articles in this field suffers from a logic flaw regarding the median voter's preferences. We show that a consistent representation of voter preferences yields substantially different conclusions."
